How to set up a fill-the-gap question in JumpLMS
Fill-the-gap questions ask Learners to complete a sentence or phrase by typing the missing answer.
You can allow multiple acceptable answers, which is useful when Learners may enter a valid response in slightly different ways.
Note: Fill-the-gap answers are not case sensitive.
How to set up a fill-the-gap question
-
Click on the Courses tab.
-
Search for the course you want to add the question to, or find it in the list.
-
If you are using a touchscreen device, click the course thumbnail. If you are using a computer, hover over the course thumbnail.
-
Click Edit course.
-
Click on the Content tab.
-
Find the test element in the Course Elements list and click Edit. Alternatively, click Add Test to create a new test element.
-
Click Fill the gap in the Add a question panel.
-
Enter the question text and/or images. Alternatively, click Ask JumpAI to write your question. JumpAI can use the course and test titles to generate the question, acceptable answers and feedback for you.
-
Write your answer statement in the Answer field:
- Use [brackets] to define the acceptable answers.
- Separate answer variations inside the brackets using a | symbol.
- Add each acceptable answer inside the same set of brackets.
-
For example, this statement expects the Learner to type either blue whale or blue whales to get the answer correct:
The biggest animal on the planet is the [blue whale|blue whales].
-
Enter feedback text, or leave it blank if you do not want to display feedback after the question has been submitted.
-
Click Add question.
The question will be activated and added to the end of the test. You can preview how it looks by clicking the Preview icon.
Contact the JumpLMS team and we’ll help you find the right answer.
